Lake St. Clair Musky Fishing:
Rampage Sports Fishing Charters is located on the Canadian southeast corner of Lake St. Clair, docked at Cove Marina at the mouth of the Thames River in the beautiful village of Lighthouse Cove. We are approx. 45 minutes from the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor Ontario and Detroit Michigan and approx 1 ½ hours form London Ontario. Numerous pros and recreational Fisherman from Ontario, Michigan and Ohio fish the hot spots of Lake St. Clair.
Our musky season starts the first Saturday of June and we run until mid October (weather permitting). The Average size fish caught is in the range of 35 to 45 inches, some trophy fish have been caught in the range of 50 inch class with weights ranging from 29 to 40 lbs.
Various Trolling Techniques with the use of Planner Boards are used for catching Musky. Rod's with 1oz to 4oz weights, 5 to 6 foot leads are set 20 to 40 feet back off the planner board. The boat rods, known as lay down (long rods) have 2 to 6 oz weights with 5 to 6 foot leads and are 8 to 20 feet behind the boat. We also use what is called a Wash Rod which consists of 6oz to 1lbs ball weights with a 5 to 6 ft lead 5 to 10 ft behind the boat. These are very productive ways to catch fish and very exciting to watch the fish strike the lure this close to the boat. Many different lures are used starting with natural colours to match the bait fish in the area you are fishing (ex. Perch, Bass, Walleye) In early season smaller baits are more productive, as the season progresses, the size of baits increases because the fish are looking for a larger meal. Trolling speed is very important, we troll between 3.6MPH to 5MPH depending of size, type of baits we are using, and how active the fish are.
We run 8 hour charters for Musky. Two day combination packages are also available.
